The 2012 election will be a referendum on science

The GOP is trotting out half a dozen potential candidates, all but promising to ignore science in their policy-making.

Fine… I suggest these candidates sign a pledge to give up airplanes and automobiles, wear no polyester, do not print anything, do not appear on television, do not let their voice be heard on radio, ditch the cell phone, unplug their refrigerator, give up all campaign computers, cut their internet subscription, swear off all pharmaceuticals, drink no chlorinated water, use no electric lights, collect their own firewood, start their fire with friction, cook only over an open flame, live in a cave and carry their own water. No flu shots, no fluoridated toothpaste, no deodorant, no make-up, no fake tanning and no hair care products.

You can be as religious as you want to be. You can pray to Jesus, Yaweh or Allah. Freedom of religion is part of what makes this county. But if you are going to reject science, you ought not to take advantage of all that science has given us. To do otherwise is naked hypocrisy.
