Permanent reminder of a temporary feeling

A golf ball.

Rick Scott‘s aborted plan to close 50 Florida State Parks, and the current idea to put Jack Nicklaus golf courses in ’em instead, remind me of the Jimmy Buffett song “Permanent reminder of a temporary feeling.”

There are few things more permanent than a golf course. So it got me to thinking, if this is a temporary recession, why is Tallahassee so fixated on permanent change? You don’t put a golf course with a 50 year life-span into a state park just because the economy is in temporary recession. After all, Rick Scott is promising to “make Florida the world’s best place to live work and play.” And when we’re back at the top of the heap, I don’t want to be dodging Titelist golf balls in the parks.
