Dengue fever in Miami, GM bugs in Cayman

Miami-Dade County Health Department officials received confirmation of the first locally acquired case of Dengue Fever in Miami-Dade County. The individual was diagnosed with Dengue Fever based on symptoms and confirmed by laboratory tests. The individual fully recovered from this illness.

Meanwhile, the Cayman Islands this week released 3,000,000 genetically modified male mosquitoes. The GM bugs are sterile, so, when they mate, there will be no offspring and the overall mosquito population should fll.
