BP given Sunday mystery deadline

On June 8, Coast Guard Rear Admiral James Watson gave BP a 72-hour deadline to “put equipment, systems and processes in place to ensure that the remaining oil and gas flowing can be recovered, taking into account safety, environmental and meteorological factors.”

BP responded here on June 9th. Yeterday, Watson gave BP 48 hours to improve their response and identify “additional leak containment capacity that could be operationalized and expedited.” In layman’s terms, that means BP has until Sunday to deliver a list of equipment and floating storage to collect and store the oil, or else. The “or else” is not explained. Maybe this is a result of the Boston Globe’s recent photo of BP’s high-tech oil collection devices deployed on the clean-up. The duct tape is a nice touch.
