Blood on the highway

Dead Florida Panther Kitten

3% of the Florida Panther population died in one weekend after being hit by cars on a stretch of US 41 in Collier County last month. A 4-year old male was hit May 21, a 5-year old female hit May 22 and this young male was hit May 23. In addition, two litters of kittens have been lost because of the death of their mothers in the past two months. Kittens are not able to survive on their own until they are big enough to capture prey at approximately 8 months old.
