This animation of Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar images covers the period of April 26 to May 18, 2010. This shows the effect of wind and current forces on the oil slick over time. The final frame shows a tendril of oil getting pulled down the east side of the Gulf Loop Current. ASAR only shows reflection from the surface of the Gulf. These images do not show what is happening beneath the surface.
This frame comes from Roffs and shows the full extent of the slick as of May 18. The oil on the lower right of the image is on the eastern side of the Gulf Loop Current.
