May 12 Gulf Loop Current Map

Based on my unprofessional, unscientific , naturally optimistic outlook, this is an image of the moment that the crap hit the fan… In this image, courtesy of Roff’s, the grey blob is the Gulf of Mexico oil slick. That’s the “crap” in my metaphor. See the bottom, upside-down hammer looking part of the slick?. Well, that’s the oil hitting the northernmost reach of the Gulf Loop current, the “fan.”  Please keep an eye out for large trucks carrying lots of yellow and orange plastic tubes. They’ll be heading south on US-1 toward Key West.
