Where have all the pythons gone?

According to Carl Hiaasen’s latest story in the Miami Herald, it’s likely that the big, deep freeze of 2010 took out a big chunk of the pythons in the Everglades. Ten snakes were tagged with transmitters. Nine of them were found dead. Shortly after the big freeze, researchers found 14 pythons along a canal, seven of them frozen stiff. So the cold certainly killed a large percentage of the pythons, the question remains, just how many pythons were there?
